The International Energy Agency expects renewable electricity generation to overtake coal-fired output in 2026. It also forecasts solar PV becoming the world’s second-largest renewable source of electricity after hydropower. These are forecasts based on current data and assumptions, not final year-end results.
From a K2Reframe perspective, the transition is not complete when a black block is replaced with a solar panel. If grids, storage, flexibility, demand management and investment decisions are not redesigned together, a new source remains constrained by an old system.
For the C-suite, the question is not simply “How much renewable capacity did we buy?” It is “Did we also transform the system that must carry and balance it?”
Where do organisations underinvest most in the energy transition: the new source or the system surrounding it?
