Meta has reached a proposed settlement with US states in the child-safety case, potentially worth up to $17.1 billion and still subject to court approval. The proposed measures include stronger age assurance and restrictions around teen usage time and overnight access. The agreement addresses allegations that the platforms harmed young users; it is not the same as a judicial finding that those allegations were proven.
From a K2Reframe perspective, the central question is not only how long young people spend on a screen. It is which behaviour the system rewards.
When success is measured through unlimited attention, safety controls added outside the mechanism can only manage the consequences. Real transformation does not mean stopping growth; it means redesigning the incentives that produce it with responsibility built in.
In your organisation, is safety part of the product’s core or a checklist that arrives after growth?
